Bedroom

Early calls while someone sleeps.

The 7 a.m. call happens in the pod, not over the bed.

Living room

Late calls without waking the house.

Your voice reaches the room as a murmur, so the kids can sleep down the hall.

Close the door and the blocks, the cartoons and the questions stay outside.

Record without the echo.

Felt walls soak up the room, so a podcast or a voice note sounds close and clear.

A fan changes the air about every two minutes, the manufacturer says, so a long call does not get stuffy.

Getting one

From the box to your first call.

No renovation and no electrician. It is furniture that plugs in.

  1. 1

    Pick the spot

Clear 43 by 35 in of floor and 6 ft 11 in of height. In a basement, measure under the lowest duct.

  2. 2

    Two people put it together

About 30 minutes with no screws and one fastener, the manufacturer says.

  3. 3

    Plug it in

A standard household outlet runs the light, the fan and the power panel.

  4. 4

    Close the door

The felt and glass take about 25 dB off your voice, so the rest of the house hears a murmur.

Questions about the Home Pod

Size, sound, setup and ordering. Open the tab you need.

Outside it is 43 in wide, 35 in deep and 83 in tall at the roof peak (110 x 90 x 210 cm). Inside it is 39 by 31 in with 77 in of headroom. It takes about 10.6 sq ft of floor, roughly what an armchair does.

It needs 83 in (6 ft 11 in) of clear height. Measure from the floor to the lowest duct, beam or bulkhead where it will stand, not to the open ceiling. The size checker above draws your numbers to scale.

It ships packed in one crate, about 87 x 25 x 50 in according to the manufacturer, and is put together where it will stand. Tell us about stairs or tight turns when you ask for a quote and we plan the delivery with you.

The back can sit flat against a wall. Leave about 3.5 ft clear in front so the door can swing open.

About 437 lb (198 kg) once assembled.

The manufacturer rates it at 25 dB of sound reduction. A normal speaking voice inside, about 60 dB, reaches the room outside at about 35 dB, close to a murmur. It works both ways, so household noise is cut on the way in too.

No. The felt walls and roof soak up reflections. The manufacturer rates speech clarity inside above 0.76 on the STI scale, which counts as excellent.

A built-in fan brings in fresh air and changes the air in the pod about every two minutes, according to the manufacturer.

A 4000 K daylight white LED at the roof peak, rated at 1600 lux, plus a lamp bar over the desk.

The manufacturer says two people can put it together in about 30 minutes, with no screws and one fastener.

No. It plugs into a standard household outlet, and it is furniture, so there is nothing to permit.

Yes. It sits on casters, so it rolls to a new spot.

A power panel above the desk has an outlet and USB ports for a laptop, a phone and a lamp.
